Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn)
There are more than 31,000 Buddhist temples spread around Thailand. In Thai these are called wat. One of these, the Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn, is named after Aruna, the Indian God of Dawn. Sitting majestically on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River, the legendary Wat Arun is one of the most striking riverside landmarks of Thailand. Despite the name, the most spectacular view of the glittering monument can be seen from the east side of the river at sunset, when the spires of Wat Arun make an impressive silhouette against the skyline.
วัดอรุณฯ เป็นวัดโบราณที่มีมาตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา เดิมชื่อว่า “วัดมะกอก” แต่เมื่อครั้งสมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช มีพระราชประสงค์ย้ายราชธานีมาตั้ง ณ กรุงธนบุรี โดยกรีธาทัพมาถึงหน้าวัดมะกอกเอารุ่งสาง จึงเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น “วัดแจ้ง” จวบจนสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก รัชกาลที่ 1 เถลิงถวัลยราชสมบัติ แต่ยังไม่ทันแล้วเสร็จ พระองค์เสด็จสวรรคต พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัย รัชกาลที่ 2 จึงทรงดำเนินการปฏิสังขรณ์ต่อจนเสร็จ โดยพระราชทานนามวัดว่า “วัดอรุณราชวราราม” และกลายเป็นวัดประจำรัชกาลในพระองค์ ต่อมาในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ รัชกาลที่ 4 โปรดเกล้าให้อัญเชิญพระบรมราชสรีรางคารของรัชกาลที่ 2 มาบรรจุที่พุทธอาสน์ของพระพุทธธรรมมิศรราชโลกธาตุดิลก พระประธานในอุโบสถ วัดอรุณฯ จึงนับเป็นอีกหนึ่งศาสนสถานสำคัญที่ทรงคุณค่า งดงามด้วยศิลปะและสถาปัตยกรรมมากมายที่ควรค่าแก่การศึกษา ซึ่งล้วนแล้วแต่เป็นสิ่งที่เราคนไทยทุกคนควรภาคภูมิใจเป็นอย่างยิ่ง วันหยุดอย่าลืมแวะมาเยี่ยมชมความสวยงามที่วัดอรุณฯ กันนะคะ
The Grand Palace
The Grand Palace complex was established in 1782 and it consists of not only royal and throne halls, but also a number of government offices as well as the renowned Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It covers an area of 218,000 square metres and is surrounded by four walls, 1900 metres in length. After King Rama I ascended to the throne in 1782, the palace was built. Prior to this, the royal palace and centre of administration had been located in Thonburi, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. For various reasons, the new King considered the former capital to be unsuitable and decided to establish a new capital on the other side of the river.

Wat Pho
Wat Pho (Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan)is the first grade royal monastery, regarded as the most important one during the reign of King Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty. The importance of this is due to the King having managed the restoration of Wat Phodharam, an old monastery from the Ayudhya period, it re-established as a royal monastery located near the Grand Palace.
A visit to Wat Pho is a must for any traveler to Bangkok, it is the home to the Reclining Buddha which stands at fifteen metres tall and forty six metres long, the feet alone are measured at over five meters. The whole statue is covered in gold leaf and looks incredible when you get up close. Inside the temple there are 108 bowls and on the way in to the temple you can buy coins for the bowls. The history behind this is that Buddha completed 108 positive actions on his way to becoming perfect. Whilst you are at the temple you can also stop for a while to receive a traditional Thai Massage
วัดโพธิ์ หรือชื่อที่เป็นทางการว่า วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร หรือในสมัยก่อนเรียก วัดโพธาราม เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ที่อยู่คู่บ้านคู่เมืองมาตั้งแต่ รัชกาลที่ 1 สมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช และเป็นวัดประจำรัชกาลที่ 1 เมื่อก่อนเราอาจรู้จักวัดโพธิ์ในเรื่องของชื่อเสียงในเรื่องนวดแผนไทย หรือว่ายักษ์วัดโพธิ์ เป็นวัดสำคัญแห่งหนึ่งของประเทศไทย เปรียบเสมือนเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งแรกของประเทศด้วย เนื่องจากเป็นที่รวมจารึกสรรพวิชาหลายแขนง นอกจากนี้ทางยูเนสโกได้ขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกความทรงจำโลกของภูมิภาคเอเชียแปซิฟิก เมื่อ มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2551 อีกด้วย นอกจากนั้นที่วัดโพธิ์ยังถือได้ว่าเป็นวัดที่มีพระเจดีย์มากที่สุดในประเทศไทย โดยมีจำนวนประมาณ 99 องค์ และพระเจดีย์ที่สำคัญ คือ พระมหาเจดีย์สี่รัชกาล เมื่อยุคสมัยเปลี่ยนไปการเข้าวัดทำบุญ ไหว้พระขอพรดูเหมือนจะไม่ใช่จุดประสงค์เดียวในการเข้าวัดแล้ว การถ่ายภาพชิคๆ แนวๆ เริ่มเข้ามาในโลกออนไลน์มากขึ้น ทำให้การเที่ยววัดเริ่มต่างไปจากเดิม เพราะมีเพิ่มด้วยการแต่งตัวเก๋ๆถ่ายภาพกับวัดในมุมเริ่ดๆ เรียกว่าช่วยเพิ่มสีสันให้การเที่ยววัดให้เป็นเรื่องที่สนุกมากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะวัดโพธิ์ นั้น มีมุมถ่ายภาพสวยๆเยอะมากเลยทีเดียว งานนี้ทั้งสายแช๊ะสายบุญต้องอย่าลืมแวะนะคะ
Wat Phra Kaew (The temple of the Emerald Buddha)
Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is regarded as the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand. itself is the main attraction though. This is Thailand’s most important and sacred temple, so you’re expected to act with due respect inside it. Located in the historic centre of Bangkok, within the grounds of the Grand Palace, it enshrines Phra Kaew Morakot (the Emerald Buddha), the highly revered Buddha image meticulously carved from a single block of jade, and the adjoining Grand Palace together form the greatest spectacle for the visitor to Bangkok. Despite the fact that the whole compound is so full of tourists you spend half the time trying to avoid getting in people’s photos, it’s still a pretty amazing place to visit. It consists of over 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics, and dates back to 1782, when Bangkok was founded. When you enter the compound, you first of all see Wat Phra Kaew and the nearby attractions, and then move on to the Grand Palace afterwards.

Chao Phraya River
The Chao Phraya River meanders its way right through the heart of Bangkok and adds to the charm and appeal of this bustling metropolis. Getting out on the water offers a break from the crowds and the heat, making a trip along the river a popular thing to do in Bangkok. River ferries dart back and forth between hotels and landmarks so even if you just take a quick trip from one side to the other it’s a nice experience. The best way to see this Bangkok attraction though is on a river cruise or by renting a boat and travelling at your own speeds. Khao San Road
This famous road turns into a bustling night market each evening. Littered with bars, street vendors and restaurants, this is an interesting place to people watch, if nothing else. Muay Thai (Thai Boxing)
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and it is talked about everywhere. The viewing figures on TV are some of the highest for any show that is aired. Erawan Shrine
Erawan Shrine situated in one of the busiest areas of Bangkok is Erawan Shrine, It is a Brahman shrine and attracts so many visitors that it is more popular than many of the temples. Constructed in the 1950’s the shrine was made because the construction workers on the nearby hotel were too superstitious to continue their work as they felt the land spirits were unhappy and causing problems on the construction site. The shrine itself is a four faced brahma god and people flock there and lay floral garlands in the hope their wishes will come true..

Asiatique The Riverfront in Bangkok
Asiatique has successfully combined two of the most popular shopping experiences in the city: a night bazaar and a mall. Ten minutes downriver from Saphan Taksin BTS station this once-bustling international trade port has been transformed, with over 1,500 boutiques and 40 restaurants housed under a huge replica warehouse complex. Open from 17:00, spending an evening here is no problem: you’ll have good fun browsing the boutiques, picking up gifts or something for yourself; you are guaranteed to find something you would like to eat and if this isn’t enough entertainment, shows are performed nightly: Calypso ladyboy cabaret and classic Thai puppets performance.The easiest and fastest way to get there is via boat. Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin and jump on the free shuttle at the end of the pier. It only takes ten minutes, and the boat runs until 23:00. Taxis are not recommended as the traffic can be terrible in this area. From the boat you step off onto a long boardwalk which runs for 300 metres that looks romantic once the sun has set. Wide streets run between each warehouse and Asiatique provides retro props for photo opportunities: a reproduction tram car, anchors and a push cart.

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
At the center of Bangkok, one over-100-years Hindu temple is situated on the Silom road which is one of the hectic business areas in Thailand. This temple is also known as Wat Khaek or Uma Devi temple following the principle Buddha image of the temple. The name of the temple reflects the founder’s belief of Shakti which mainly dedicates to Goddess Mariamman.The Hindu Goddess Mariamman or Mother Mari is God Siva’s queen. She is the goddess of mercy and elegance when she is Mother Mari’s form. Many devotees worship her and pray for good wishes.At this Hindu temple, besides the statue of Sri Maha Mariamman, there are also the statues of other Hindu Gods and Goddesses including God’s Ganesh, Bramha, Vishnu, Lord Thendayuthapani, Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Saraswathi.The architecture features the structural temple of South India combining between Chola and Palava found in Tamil Nadu in the south of India. Inside, Sri Maha Mariamman or Mother Mari is located as a main Goddess of the temple surrounded by God’s Ganesh, Siva, Krishna, Vishnu, Lord Thendayuthapani, Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Kali. At the center of this sacred temple, there is a small Hindu temple where Shiva lingam is located.This temple used to welcome only Hindus while, during the afternoon period, the temple is closed for praying to Gods by reciting Ramayana. However, nowadays the temple is open more to the public from worshippers of other gods, believers in other religious to tourists.Sri Maha Mariamman Temple is open for a visit and a pray every day with an appropriate dress regulation. No food is allowed. There are flower stalls close to the temple, selling flowers, flower garlands, fruits and foods for ceremonies.
วัดศรีมหาอุมาเทวี หรือ วัดแขกสีลม เป็นเทวสถานฮินดู สร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นสถานที่ถวายการบูชาพระศรีมหาอุมาเทวีซึ่งเป็นพระชายาของพระศิวะ เทวสถานนี้มีหลักฐานปรากฏมาตั้งแต่สมัย ร.5 ราว พ.ศ. 2453-2454 โดยคณะผู้ศรัทธาชาวอินเดียใต้เป็นผู้ร่วมสร้าง และในช่วงวันขึ้น 1-9 ค่ำ เดือน 11 รวม 9 วัน 9 คืนนั้น เป็นเป็นช่วงเวลาของเทศกาลดูเซร่า หรือนวราตรี ของชาวฮินดู ซึ่งเป็นงานแห่พระแม่อุมา และเชื่อกันว่าในช่วงเวลานี้เป็นช่วงที่พระแม่และขบวนเทพจะเสด็จมายังโลกเพื่อประทานพรให้กับมนุษย์ซึ่งในวันนั้นจะมีการประกอบพิธีอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ทุกปี เรียกได้ว่าเป็นอีกพิธีกรรมที่ปฏิบัติสืบทอดมาเป็นเวลายาวนาน
